Hi,
Not exactly setup_deployment, but maybe someone has an idea on this.
What's the proper way to check NTFS File Systems on big RAID arrays?
As I see it, there's two separate issues:
1. Checking the consistency of the RAID itself (controller software)
2. Checking things specific to Windows (NTFS etc)
In the case of #1, most big controllers come with software you can use
to check the "health" of the array - I've no idea how good/bad these
tools are, because I've never seen them say anything other than "All Clear"!
In the case of #2, what choices are there? We have chkdsk with various
command line options, but is this really enough for todays mass storage
configurations?
One thing that confuses me, is that chkdsk can test sectors (?) with the
/r switch, but if it's something like RAID 5 or RAID 10, how is this
possible? I mean isn't a sector specific to ONE physical disk?
