Checkdisk runs at every reboot

My CPU usage has been running high (100%). I thought iTunes was the culprit, and uninstalled. However, I am still having another problem. My web browsers and email app are unable to find the server unless I reboot the machine. After I reboot, Checkdisk runs, and appears to be fixing bad links in lost chains at every cluster on my HDD

Once Checkdisk is through, my desktop comes up, and the machine runs fine for awhile, until I start getting "unable to find server" messages again from my Internet apps

Is the iPod software doing this, or is my HDD dying. I suspect the latter.
