I'm running XP Home Edition. For the last few months I've had system tools problems. When I start disk cleanup, it stalls right away on "checking old files". When I run Check Disk it runs for awhile, then says that it could not complete. When I run it to "automatically fix file system errors", which requires a restart to run, the computer comes back up saying that it has recovered from a serious error. Presumably this includes a failure to complete the error-checking function.
Tonight I reinstalled XP, feeling certain that this would solve the problem. It did not. I've searched and searched for an answer, with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks,
