i currently own 2 ide hdd, one in a usb2.0 and one in a firewire enclosure.
i plan on adding a dvd-burner soon, but dont want the mess of 3 external
enclosures, so i thought about going to a 4-drive firewire case, but am
somehow upset by the price of 160 euro. subtracting the money i get from
selling the other two enclosures it still end up somewhere around 90 to 100
bucks, so this is somewhat horrible.
i also thought about buying a cheap pc (P-90) for around 15 bucks and hook
up a firewire card.
my questions:
1) can i connect two-firewire ports directly and it works the way i am used
to, e.g. i can see the drives as normal in explorer?
my guess is no.
2) i know i can use firewire as 400mbps network, so am i able to use the
drives as network drives?
my guess is yes, but what about the dvd-burner? will nero6 burn to a
network-burner?

thx for any help

Just get a bigger case for your PC.

It is possible to do with software, something like a SCSI-3 bridge. Not likely
on Windows though.

Nope, network drives are file sharing, no audio or multimedia either.

Have you thought about upgrading your main system to one with a larger case
than has more drive bays and a motherboard that can except all of your
drives? Why do you want all of these enclosures to be external?

/c my main system is a notebook, and dvd-r drives fro netbooks are quite
expensive and only available at 2x speed.
i was looking for the lg4040b, as a multi-burner and because of its dvd-ram
abilities.
