I love Windows Movie Maker, and I have made several movies with it. But now
I want to burn those movies onto DVDs to send to family, so they can play on
a regular DVD player. I have a DVD burner drive of course, but after looking
into software, they all seem to be around $80 + to be able to write movies to
DVD. Does anyone have any suggestions about cheap or free dvd writing
software? I don't need anything fancy, just the basics...

Thanks.

Did you not get burner software with the DVD burner drive? Just about every
drive manufacturer provides the necessaary software to use their device.

Search Google if you want free or cheap burner software.

www.download.com
This is an execellent site with software of every type:

This is a link to their DVD authoring section:
http://tinyurl.com/jajpn

Though you really should opt for a quality and
established burning application such as Nero
and part with some cash!
It is doubtful that your PC/burner didn't come
preinstalled with a version of DVD authoring?

It came with Sonic Record Now, and I have Roxio Easy CD&DVD, but neither of
those products actually burn a video DVD. I have looked at download.com and
there was really nothing.

You seem to be out of your depth.
Good luck

As decoder said, Roxio Easy CD&DVD Creator is fine for burning DVD's.
Look at the help in the program and/or go to the Roxio site and look for
additional help on whichever version you have.

OK, scratch that, I have Easy CD creator basic, it's what came with an old
dell laptop, It cannot author DVD's. Is there really nothing that can do a
basic job of authoring a DVD? It's just not worth it to me to pay $90 for
something I'll use maybe 2 times a year....

Your DVD burner came with software to burn DVD's (both data and DVD movies).

FWIW, with DVD authoring software, you definitely get what you pay for.
Cheap or free DVD burning software will offer no ability to optimize video,
to fit to a DVD if the file is larger than one DVD will hole, and will not
work with but a limited range of files to star with.

My recommendation: buy Nero 7. It is by far the best product (under $100)
for burning DVDs.

Bobby

hi, I can help you with your problem go to www.divx.com and download current
version divx player which includes a burner for free. and if you want to try
somthing else got to www.cnet.com or www.pcworld.com or www.majorgeeks.com
all have some programs that are free.

The Op asked for assistance with burning a DVD that he could send to
relatives to play on their DVD players. Very few standalone DVD players
play the DivX format, so your answer is inappropriate given the situation
presented in the original question.
