Why is it that it always seems that the people that do
these rooms set up always fall a little short...
We need a LIVE subject chat room,, It could B On msn
chat & should B...
I don't have time to diddle here.
I have this problem on my C that I can't get rid of.
Here is the message. I tried every thing it says to do,
nothing works;
The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had
its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

Please try the following:

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make
sure that it is spelled correctly.

Open the public.searchbarcash.com home page, and then
look for links to the information you want.
Click the Back button to try another link.
Click Search to look for information on the Internet.

HTTP 404 - File not found
Internet Explorer

Now how do I get rid of this half inch tall line under
the address bar.? REX R. BAHR @ POORLAND OREGON USA

1. Do you want to pay for the person to sit at a computer to respond back
immediately for help? Microsoft already has that in place. This is a free
service from dedicated people who want to help others.

2. Your problem is simply that Internet Explorer is attempting to access a
web page that is unavailable.

Do you have Web content enabled on your desktop? If so turn it off.

Hi, Rex.

Now that you've got that out of your system, why don't you back up and send
that message to Microsoft where it could do some good? Now it's MY turn to
rant! ;^{

> I don't have time to diddle here.

Neither do we. Especially with someone who won't even take the time to read
the signposts on the way into here.

This is NOT Microsoft Tech Support. This is NOT a "room". This is a
NEWSGROUP. Peer-to-peer. We are all users like you. We are not on
Microsoft's payroll. We didn't design this web-based interface! Many of us
HATE it because it seems to encourage messages like yours. End of rant.

Now, for your actual problem:

> I have this problem on my C that I can't get rid of.

The problem you describe is not "on [your] C" - at least, not in the way we
would normally think of that phrase.

> The page cannot be found

....
> HTTP 404 - File not found

These are the classic lines we all have seen many times when Internet
Explorer - or Netscape or any other web browser - can't find the URL we have
told it to find. There can be many reasons for this, as spelled out on the
page you quoted. If you get that message on one specific page, it's
probably because the page doesn't work anymore - or temporarily - for some
reason. If you get such messages on every page you try to visit, then you
probably have an error in the way you have setup IE and your ISP.

Web browsers use a DNS, a Domain Name Server - sort of like a giant phone
book in the sky - to convert addresses such as www.google.com, for example,
into 216.239.57.99, which is Google's IP address. If I want to phone you, I
don't dial "REXBAHR" on my telephone; I look up your phone number and dial
555-1212, or whatever number (not name) is in the book. The DNS converts
the URL to the IP for us, so that IE can call the IP and download the page.
If IE can't even find the DNS, then it can't look up the number, so it can't
find the page, so it presents Error 404. Many DNSes are available on the
'Net; you need to ask your ISP which one is included in your subscription
and make sure that DNS address is in your IE configuration.

By the way, the IP for "public.searchbarcash.com" is 66.330.152.226. But
when I go there, all I see is a single word: "hey". What did you expect to
see there?

There are other possible causes for your problem, but this is my best guess
based on your description of what you see.
