I want to create a simple chart with project milestones as
the Y axis and dates (months) as the x axis. I will then
plot a series across the chart showing milestone
completion dates. I have set this up using a line chart
but the Milestones are on the x axis and the months on the
y axis! How do I configure the chart to be the right way
round??

You have to use an XY Scatter series for the milestone markers, with
appropriate X and Y values. The XY chart will use the secondary axes;
scale these so the secondary X axis matches the primary Y axis, and so
the markers line up with the appropriate bars.
