How do I display only the data summary as a label above the column? For
instance, my column has three values and is divided into three sections, and
I would like to display only the sum of these three.

You'd have to do this with a manual textbox in PPT.

I think it could be done in an Excel graph, though.

Echo's correct that this can be done in Excel.
Make the same chart and display the data labels value. Select the
single data label and click in the formula bar and type an "=" sign
and then select the cell where the total is summed up. It would look
like this. =Sheet1!$A$4

Hi,

You can add an extra data series, which contains the summary value.
As the data sheet only stores values you will have to calculate the
values manually.
Select the new data series and change the axis to be Secondary.
The new data series will cover the other data series. So, format the
data series to have no border and no pattern. Also enable data labels.
You should now have a stacked column with a summary value.
The last thing you might want to do is remove the extra entry from the
legend. To do this select the legend then select the series, ensure you
have both legend marker and text select, then press delete.

Your solution is OK, but creates extra work at the front and back ends. I
have already created some bar charts that show only the series summary at the
top of the bar. I'm just trying to duplicate those charts, but can't seem to
find the magic sequence.

Thanks, Andy. I have moved my data tables into Excel and created the charts
from there, linking the numbers to the main table and creating automatic
total and percentage updates on separate data tables for each chart. K
