Chart control issues

Suppose you have a default bar chart, and you want the
Legend to overlap the chart itself, so it doesn't account
for too much space.

Is there an automatic way to do this?

If not, what's the best way -- should you remove the
official Legend, then just position a text box over the
finished chart?

Should you Ungroup the thing, then slide things around --
and lose the automatic linkage?

Should you copy the existing Legend first, then remove it,
and paste it back on top?
* * *
Related question: In a cluster of bars, if they're up
against each other, can you get some space between? Is
the only way, to Ungroup?
* * *
Another, you guessed it: The data labels practically
collide with the tops of the bars. Can you slide them up
a bit?

Thanks in advance.

The legend can be selected and moved/resized any way you like.

Activate the chart, right click on one of the columns/bars, select "Format
Data Series", in the next dialog select Options, increase or decrease the
Gap width to change the space between the columns.
