Charge for building a web site

I've made a web site for a friend and don't have a clue what I should charge
her for the build, and then what to charge her for updating. The site
contains 12 pages, so far and as what she is selling on the site is high-end
knitted garments that will basically be one-of-a-kind, there will be updates
as new designs are submitted to be put onto the site. She's also wanting
PayPal on the order form there. That leads to another question....I emailed
PayPal, and they tell me that I have to have my client's personal info to
set up the PayPal on her page. I can be trusted, but still I really don't
want to have that info. Is there some other way I can do this?
I'm trying to find out what I should charge her initially for the build. I'm
not a professional, but the site looks pretty impressive and she's very
happy with it.
Thanks for any help you can give me with this.

1. Hard to say how much to charge, some folks charge by the page, per hour or by the project. You
have to decide what is the best option and how much is your time worth.

2. Have your friend set up her PayPal account, then only thing you need to know is her account ID
(email address that she set up for her account)

if you post a url of the site so it can be seen you'll get a good idea of
what it's worth.... or see disparity in opinions.

There's no easy answer. Too late now but this sort of thing should always be
decided ahead of time. But, given that you are not a professional, $20-25 an
hour would not be unreasonable. Note that your time should include only time
you spent actually working on her site - not time that you spent figuring
things out that a profesional would have known. As for PayPal, explain to
her and let her do it. Or, if she is computer-shy, get together with her and
help her do it.

Thanks!
I'm so relieved to hear that. I don't really want to know her personal
banking information. I feel much better knowing I can do it that way. I have
the PayPal button on the site, but not activated. I believe there are
different buttons you can put on the site and I think I'll change what I
have there right now.

Thanks, Peter
As she is in the US & I'm in Canada, we've been working this out by emails
and phone calls. I don't want to charge her a lot as she is a friend and I'm
not a professional I was thinking more along the line of charging a
one-time fee for the build and then a monthly, or whatever she wants, fee
for updating the site.

you have to optimize this picture:
http://shirleybrand.hypermart.net/mi...oorbkg_new.jpg
1/4 meg is way too big. ;-)

it looks like a pretty straight up fp web with the cypress theme.
I'm assuming you're going to add some photos of the items for sale and
stuff.

$500.

Thanks, Chriss!
I'll get to that picture tonight and fix it up. I'm glad you pointed it out

Yes, the items will be put onto the page when she gets the photos taken and
sent to me. Also, the PayPal thing will get worked out later, too.
