I supposed to write an essay with no more than 2000 characters. My Word 2007
(Microsoft Office) shows a word count, but I can't find a character count.
Also, are spaces and punctuation counted, or would one just count the letters
used? Thanks.

On the status bar at the bottom of the Word window, click the word count. That
opens a dialog that shows counts of characters -- both with and without spaces
-- plus a number of other counts.
