I want to change my ssid name on XP but i'm not sure what to do.I did
find a window under Intel Pro Wireless called profiles which i
clicked on, then selected manage profiles. I clicked on my ssid name
but it said "selected profiles will be permanently removed". I want to
make sure it will only remove my name and not any configurations too.

You don't change the SSID on the computer. You change it in the router's
configuration utility. Most routers are accessed from a browser at the
router's IP address like: http://192.168.1.1 for instance. Refer to your
router manual or the mftr.'s website for details.
