Thank you firstly, I am wanting to load Windows XP Pro
having read the add more memory to your comp in MS help section, i thought
i would have a go. Before i started i r/clicked properties on my comp to find
out how much ram i have.
X86 Family 6 model 8 stepping 6
AT / AT COMPATIBLE
187,888 kb RAM

So i opened the case located the two ram`s took out the, shall i say the
left one closest to the rear to look at all i can see written on it is 8m x
64 sdram the one to the right i pulled out to see if it was the same was
bigger in hight with no readable markings on it. So i put it all back
together logged back on to Crucial Technology done a scan to see what ram was
in my comp (192) and what i can go to (512). New problem the two rams i need
to buy to bring my comp up to 512, ie 2x 256 or 2x 512 this is where im lost.
And why is one bigger than the other in my comp at the moment. It does say
that you will be replacing the smaller one so would i be on the right track
in thinking that i need one 512 sdram to go into the slot of the smaller ram.
Thank You Jodee.

Buy either of the pairs from Crucial and replace both your existing ram
sticks
(ie 1 pair will give you a total of 512mb the other will give you 1gb)

Mixing ram sticks can cause problems
And have you checked that the rest of your hardware supports, has drivers
for, WinXp, eg motherboard chipset, video card etc, also any peripherals eg
Printers, scanners etc

Remove the unmarked RAM. Power up the PC and see how much you have now.

Thanks Dave, Lil` Dave, went back to Crucial Technology done another check it
tells me i have 1x 64ram 1x 128ram, loaded in the computer. This is how the
computer came to me years ago, its a HP Biro 410a from what i can find out
from HP site and Crucial it can go to 512 so do i buy 2x 256 sdram. Thanks
again. Will pull out larger ram and run comp with just smaller ram if still
needed.
