Changing prompt from C:\documents and settings\ to C:\ within command prompt

How do I change prompt from C:\documents and settings\ to C:\ within
command prompt. I have tried to put in c: and hit enter but it doesn't
reccognise it.

Can anyone help?

"C:" is the change drive command. You want the "Change Directory" command.
Unless, of course, you want to do both at the same time.

Right click command prompt>properties....
Start in: C:\
