I bought my computer used and I would like to know how to
get the previous owner's information out of the computer
and reregister it to myself

Greetings --

To fix the "Registered to" information for WinNT/2K/XP, you can use
Start > Run > Regedit.exe to edit:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\RegisteredOwner

and:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
Version\RegisteredOrganization

Bruce....

On the same note, what if the OS was installed as Gateway with their
name as owner and organization? Would changing to my name affect any
registration or validation problems with XPPro?

Thanks

Greetings --

Not at all. All that's affected is the registered
owner/organization as displayed on the local machine. It's a purely
cosmetic feature.
