I recently had to get a new hard drive and clean slate. The guy who did the
work for me spelled my name wrong in a couple of places and it's driving me
nuts. When I click on System, it says Registered to xxxxxx and it's spelled
wrong. How do I fix this?

Thanks! Using the process from Elder Geek did the trick. I had already tried
the process from Doug Knox and it did not do what I wanted.
One more question. When I go into Documents and Settings, the default folder
that is created still has the name spelled wrong and I was hoping that it
would be fixed also. Windows won't let me rename it. Is there a way to get
around this?

The procedure that's outlined in the link provided by Leonard Grey is the
accepted route to solve this problem. As you may have already found out,
changing the user name in Control Panel -> User Accounts is really only a
cosmetic solution. Creating a new user account with the correct name and
copying your old files to the new profile is the way to go. Here's an

You will have to use a third account which is a computer administrator in
order to copy the files. You can use the built-in Administrator account or,
if you're running XP Home, create a temporary admin account that can be
deleted once the procedure is completed.
