Sara,
This is a self designed template you say, have you tried to rename it
following these steps:
On the new presentation task pane click on the link 'On my computer'.
Right click on the template you designed (most probably will be on the
general tab), choose properties, at the top of the dialog you will see the
name of the template edit it and hit OK.
Now close PPT, start it up again, go to the design task pane, you will find
your template with it's new name. Apply it to a new or existing
presentation, and that name will appear at the bottom of your screen.
At least it does so here.
