Changing mice on optical setup

This is not a strictly XP problem, but I am using XP Pro, so here
goes.
I recently purchased a Logitech Optical Keyboard/Mouse combo and did
not notice that the mouse was not optical. If I purchase a Logitech
optical cordless mouse, will it work with the existing transmitter?

TIA

How can you buy an optical combo and not get an optical mouse? Don't you
mean a wireless/cordless combo?

I do not believe that a separate cordless mouse would be able to "hop" on to
the existing cordless receiver (mouse and keyboard are the transmitters).

If it has not been too long, you could always return the combo, especially
if the box says optical and the mouse is not.

May I also add my support for getting an answer here. I am going to have to
replace my Logitech cordless mouse which has developed an annoying habit of
sometimes sending two pulses when the left button is pressed. My local
branch of CompUSA says that their own generic, wireless, optical mouse will
work and that sounds quite possible. I have still to decide whether the
thumb button on the Logitech mouse is useful since the CompUSA mouse does
not have it.
