I have decided to change my main products page of
yourcrafts.com to my index page and eliminate my existing
index page. Is there a way to do this smoothly without
affecting my SEO and PR?

What is the file name of the page you are wanting to change it to? What is
the file name of the current index page?

What is SEO and PR?

The file name that I would like to have the index page is:
C:\Documents and Settings\user1\Desktop\Rons\My
Webs\crafts\products.htm
URL is:www.yourcrafts.com/products.htm
File name of the current index page is:C:\Documents and
Settings\user1\Desktop\Rons\My Webs\crafts\index.htm
URL is: www.yourcrafts.com

SEO means Search Engine Optimization
PR means Page Rank when it comes to Google PR.

By the way I am using FP2002

Thanks,
Ron Mc

You must first of all contact your host to ask them to change the default
page from index.htm to products.htm on the host server, if they will.

Then, you must resubmit your web site to the search engines after you
publish the web.

Just change the page content, no need to change the filename. The name of your index page (default
document) is controlled by the server, so you would need to open product.htm and then do a save as
overwriting index.htm, so that product.htm become index.htm.

If you change the filename, Google will see it as a new page and you
will start again at PR0 in essence. Keep the name index.htm and just
plug in the content from products.htm

Just open the products page and use file/save as/ index.htm, and overwrite existing
I might suggest you save a copy of your old index.htm just in case
Also be sure to check that all the hyperlinks work correctly

Yes, just upload the new page (but first, rename the existing one to something
like index-old.htm or whatever, just so you can restore it if you need to).

why not just rename 'products.htm' to 'index.htm' ??

rather than having your default page 'products.htm' it stays as 'index.htm'.
