Hi:
I understand that you can change the size of text using the mouse
scroll-wheel while holding down the Control key. Is this dependent on the
version of Windows (Vista, XP, 2000,..), the version of Internet Explorer
(IE7, IE6, ...) , both, and/or other issues? Please clarify. Also, do you
need a specific make of scroll-mouse
for this to work? If not, Which scroll-mice (or mouse/keyboard pair) are
the better picks ?

Sounds more like a function of the mouse software from whomever makes
your mouse, or on whatever application you are running that intercepts
a mousescroll+ctrl event (like in IE7). It is highly likely that your
mouse software or the application would be looking for that event
regardless of which version of Windows that you use.

It should work in all Windows and IE versions. Why do you ask?

Any wheel mouse should work, whether using standard Windows drivers or
branded mouse drivers. I find it works even when vertical scrolling is
disabled in the mouse driver.

A few mice (MS Comfort Optical 3000, some others) have smooth scrolling
wheels but most mouse wheels have detents, which can cause the size to
change in larger steps as you roll the wheel. It doesn't function in every
app, like right now in OE, but otherwise works in IE, other browsers, and
many other apps (MS Works, Open Office, Paint.Net, etc. etc.).

It has nothing to do with IE. It should work in all applications.

It's a Windows standard, and, as I said, should work in all
applications--third-party ones as well as Microsoft's. However, be
aware that not all software developers follow standards, and there are
undoubtedly exceptions. Even in IE, there are some web sites where it
doesn't work.

I personally like the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, but that has
nothing to do with this issue.

Basically, I am looking into this issue prior to posssibly buying a mouse
for my folks' desktop that is runing XP Home Edition, and was just gathering
information.
