Changing folder attributes

I am logged into my Windows XP computer as
Administrator. I wish to change a folders attributes
from read only to not read only so I can share the folder
and all files inside it. After I uncheck the read only
box, and click on Apply, the computer acts like it is
applying the change. However, when I go back to the same
properties box, it is read only again.

Can someone help me with this?

Also, I would like to share this folder with one other
computer but not with all. How do I do that?

This is my first time posting a question here. I would
appreciate any help I can get!

Thanks!
