This is indeed not too hard, and does not involve losing data for most folks. I've done it a number of times without issues.

I would recommend that you run chkdsk on the partition before the conversion and defragement it as well, and that you defragment it after the conversion.

Conversion can take a good bit of time for a large partition. Normally, you'll end up with more usable disk space after the conversion which is good.

All of the above assumes XP--there are links to the Windows 2000 version of that article in the article itself. If you are on Vista, write back.
