Is there any utility that will enable us to change the file extension of
files without having to get into Folder Options>Show extensions....... ?
That option is checked by preference.
However, one does very often come across downloaded files (usually flv and
pdf) that need to be corrected before use.
Regards and TIA

yes, the command prompt will allow you to do that.

not likely there is a program
that does such an simple
job.

however, you can go right into
the registry and carefully modify
the keys as well as add and delete.

open the registry and search for
something like .html

the engine will take you to the branch
that lists all the file types.

to open the registry click start>run>
regedit

incidentally, you might want to make
a system restore point that will help you
undue any mistakes you make in the
registry.

Hacking the registry would be quite inappropriate when renaming a file.
Bob's suggestion of using the "rename" command would work, as would
right-clicking the file in Windows Explorer, then clicking "Rename".
