changing e-mail addresses

Hope someone can help me here (Mr. MVP?)

I want to use a different e-mail address from my hotmail to register and use
Messenger. I tried to do this via the .NET passport site and when I typed
in my e-mail adderes, it complained about the reserved domain, but my e-mail
address is not part of a reserved domain. So I went to my .NET profile page
and where it is supposed to say, according to the MSN help, "I need to
change this" ... I don't see those words, so I'm stuck.
