Changing Domain Name Registrar

Hello, all -

I realize this may not be the most appropriate forum for this question,
but you folks are so knowledgeable I thought I'd give it a try anyway...

My domain name is currently registered via a company in Australia (don't
ask - long story). How can I transfer this registration to a US-based
company? Details appreciated.

TIA,
Craig

Most registrars will help facilitate moving from another registrar, so there
is no major problem. Contact the registrar you wish to move to and ask them
if they can help you. The issue, however, is how soon the old registrar drops
you from their entry database. If you are also moving IPs for the site, the
lag could mean a downed site (for awhile). If it is on the same IP before and
after, you should not have a problem.

Get the company you want to transfer to involved. It not careful,
something will go wrong and you'll lose the name or have to pay extra
to get it back. I hope the AU company is helpful!!

My suggestion is to have the name and domain with the same company.
Lot less chance of something going wrong.

I agree with Tom G. Some domain registrars will not allow the transfer if
they are listed as the admin or technical contact, which leaves the "owner"
out in the cold.

| HI Craig......
|
| As has been suggested you can do a domain transfer with a US domain name
| company.
| The problem will be with your current domain registrar. If they have your
| domain name locked then it can not be transfered. You need to check that
out
| first BEFORE you do the transfer. If they have it locked ..... have them
| unlock it.
|
| Shamless plug.... check out domain transfers at: www.wcgawebs.com
| You can do the transfer and get a year extension for $9.95
|
| Best to you.......

Gregory -

Thanks for the reply. The IP will be the same so there should be no problem.
