I use PPT 2002 to make presentations with animation. One of my favorite ways
to have text appear is to use "wipe". The default for appearing is from the
bottom. However, I prefer to have text appear from the left. Is there a way
to change this, or any other options in the various animations?

2 suggestions for you:
1. Add your favourite effect to the master slide text placeholder (View ->
master -> slide master or hold shift when you click on the normal view
button) and it will apply to all slides - you can have multiple masters if
you do not want the effect to apply to all slides
2. Buy Animation Carbon that allows you to copy animation from one thing to
another and/or store your favs in the animation library. I love this add-in
and couldn't cope without it :-) More info here:

Is there a "Slide Library" .ppt2007 I have been searching the drop downs for
ages this morning. I have following the links to the (Carbon). I am so new
to all of this that I cannot yet perceive what an "add in" is. I would love
to be able to have a library for certain things. I don't think I am
knowledgable enough to buy Carbons :-(

Before I start can I just say how impressed I am with your commitment to
teaching yourself (it's fun when you get going, isn't it?) and your
courteousness on this site. Good luck with it and if I can help you in anyway
I am more than glad to. :-)

An add-in is basically a macro (an automated series of steps) that is part
of the programme (ie is not stored in an individual presentation). You get
extra buttons/dialogue boxes that allow you to do more - you may want to look
at the free PPTools starter set to get an idea:
http://www.pptools.com/starterset/index.html

The Library is part of animation carbon where you can save certain effects
or use pre-built ones - which explains why you can't find it. I don't know if
animation carbon works with 2007 - not tried installing it on my new machine
yet (I generally work with 2003). There is a free 15 day trial so you could
give it a go or others may want to comment...

Thank you for your comments. I think I have said in the past that my husband
is an MVP and a Visual Basic programmer but I wont let him anywhere near
this, it is my baby ! !

I read all of the questions and answers on this group and store any relevant
tips in my PPT tips folder. I may sound boring at times but this group is
like an extended family. You are all so helpful and I have noticed that a
lot of the people that post questions just want answers and are not prepared
to "look for themselves", although of course I realise that even the most
proffesional people at times do need a quick speedy answer. I don't think I
am ready for macro's yet but I have kept a copy of the link :-)

Honestly Momo download them both - they're really easy to use, no macro
knowledge required promise and I should know as I'm a pure GUI girl (that's
Graphic User Interface. It means I like to click and I like to drag ;-) ).

Hi Lucy,

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try them in the order presented. It
looks like there is much more that can be done with the Master slide than
just text and general slide formating. Do you have a suggested site where I
can learn more about Master slides?

I may move to Office 2007 later this year. If so, would Animation Cartoons
still be needed?

Animations in PowerPoint 2007 is almost similar to PowerPoint 2002/XP and
2003. (Except for animation scheme feature, which has been removed in 2007)

As Tohlz says.

Also Animaton Carbon is still necessary in 2007 (still haven't checked if it
works) as there is still no in-built way to copy animations from one thing to
another. To see the main differences between 2003 and 2007 see Echo's great
list here: http://www.echosvoice.com/2007.htm She also has some Master
training...
