Changing default record locking

Hello, I run a database in Access 2002 and am having access problems for
users to login.

The problem is, well, everything was running smooth as all the users had
"Change" access (read-write) and the default record locking was set to
"Edited Record" and the "Open Databases using record level locking" check box
was selected. (Tools-options-advanced).

This was fine, but now I've granted a group of people, read-only access, and
when they try to log on they get the error, "Could not lock record - Error
1030" or something along those lines.

Now I did some reading and figured the reason they couldn't get in is because
of the record locking file that was generated by Read-Write users. So I
decided it was plausible to change the default record locking to "no Locks",
which hopefully would work. Let me know if that is correct.

Now, everytime I try to change the options to "no locks" it only works once,
and then when I get back into the database it still has that record locking
file coming up in the folder it was opened from , and when I check the
settings in Tools-options-advanced, they are set to the original default.

This is driving me crazy, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
Any advice would be a big help, thank you.!
