Changing the default logon server

Hi our employees tend to move from site to site in our domain, and at the
moment the user in question is logging on to server that is miles way. i
need him to log on to the local logon server. DC Windows 2000. Without
having to mess about with logon scripts and group policies. How can he
default to the local logonserver.

I tried HKCU volatile envoirenment "logon servername" no joy.

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance
