Changing Default Image Action from "Open" to "Preview"

I have found many posts on how to change the default action for various
image files (.jpg, .gif, etc.) from "Preview" to "Open" so that the file
opens in the default app instead the Windows Image and Fax Previewer. This
consisted of simply deleting the registry key HKCR\SystemFileAssociations
\image\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\ShellImagePreview.

However, I would like to go the other way. Note that I don't want to change
the default program for my image files, just the default action.
Unfortunately I have no idea where to start. The above key already exists
for me. Also the only action I see when I go to Tools > Folder Options >
File Types > JPG > Advanced is 'open.' I tried using RegMon + filter on
'JPG' to find some clues but that just swamped me with too many unrelated
keys. Can anyone provide a hint? Thanks in advance.

Start - run the line
regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

which should restore the registry entries concerned
