How can I change the default "save mail attachent"
target folder, in Outlook Express, from "My Documents"
to point somewhere else?

Open Registry Editor and go to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Identities\<Your Identity>\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0
You will see a CLSID in place of <Your Identity>

NOTE: Locate the appropriate Outlook Express identity by selecting a CLSID [if you have more than one] and looking at the "Username" value in the right-pane

In the right pane, change the value for "Save Attachment Path" to the folder you want. Here is where the attachments will be saved [default].

You're welcome.

Just a note: Once you save an attachment the first time, it takes the path specified in the registry. After saving the attachment, OE might truncate the last character in the path mentioned (C:\OEMails becomes C:\OEMail), and it's a bug, afaik. As a result, it might default to My Documents next time onwards.

Great idea that one, Kelly. Initially, thought of denying write access to that key.

One work-around I've seen (and use for this) is to add a bunch of ("\"s)
at the end of the path. So if you want to save attachments in "C:\Temp",
enter "C:\Temp\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" as the
value in
"SaveAttachmentPath" instead. You will have to periodically replenish
this value when OE "eats" your last extra "\".

Thank you *all* for the help and advice.
As long as I keep the forward slashes supplied,
I'm good to go.........
