Can someone tell me how to change the default setting
when looking at a file listing in either or both Win 2000
and Windows XP. I want the default to list files in
Detail View. Thanks.

Explorer|View|Details Then Explorer|Tools|Folder Options|View, then "Like
Current Folder". Depending on your likings, you may also need to check
"Remember each folder's view settings"
