Ok, my problem is that when ever I try to change color of the windows
(Personalize - windows color and appearance) it shows up with the old xp-type
customizer, which does not allow for vista theme customization. How would I
get it to show the normal vista style?

It sounds like you are running Vista Basic and are not able to run Vista
Standard or Aero. Open Welcome Center and see if you are showing a WDDM
driver, if not you can not run anything other than what you have now.
What Video Card do you have?

Yes, I see the WDDM driver. I'm not sure exactly what video card I currently
have in my computer, but it's fairly nice. BTW, I'm running Vista Ultimate.

I used to be able to change the colors, but for some reason it won't let me
anymore. It just shows the XP style custom stuff. I'm not sure if I'm making
any sense...

My brand new HP Laptop does the exact same thing now. I recently sent it in
to HP's repair services for a broken or not working display, and apparently
they replaced the motherboard... Thank God it was under warranty...

anyways, i've seen in some places that after installing a certain update
that vista deems itself not valid, but my computer doesn't. When I go to
Control Panel>Personalization>Windows Color and Appearance, it pops up the
old windows XP appearance box, not allowing me to use Windows Vista Standard
as the appearance theme. I run Vista Home Premium, but the color scheme has
reverted to Vista Basic for some reason.

Please help! I miss my old colors...
