I recently involuntarily switched from Comcast cable to SBC DSL. I
configured my network so I can surf and so on, but I am unable to send
my email via outlook express, where I can receive email in outlook
express. Comcast will not give me technical support. I get the
following errors when I try to send an email:

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's
e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was
'(E-Mail Removed)'. Subject 'test', Account: 'mail.comcast.net',
Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530
Authentication required', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

and also this error:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible
causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long
period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server:
'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '+OK', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Is my router incorrectly configured? I can check my email on the
website but I want to set it up via outlook. Can someone please help
me!!!!

Matt

Hi Matt
The smtp server on comcast has picked up (from your IP address) that you're
not connecting via the Comcast line any more so it's not allowing you to use
their outgoing server. It's a common problem when people have email accounts
with different ISPs.
You need to use a SBC smtp server address for outgoing mail. I hope you've
got one.
Try to dump any comcast email addresses as soon as you can.

Do you mean that I can still receive email but not send email? Also,
my father who is on the same comcast account and is connected to
comcast gets the same error messages. Please help!

I'm confused. You say your dad is on the same comcast account. Do you mean
he retains the old comcast account and you're now with a different ISP? Was
the comcast account signed up in his or your name?

Yes you may be able to receive mail, but you may not be able to use comcasts
smtp server to send it if you're connecting to the internet using a
different ISP. If the comcast account HAS been closed then don't assume
you'll always have access to it, they may be generous and give you a mail
box for a short while while you sort something else out.

On the other hand, I don't know why your father should be having problems if
he's still using comcast as his ISP.
