Changes cannot be saved to a .msg file

We are having some issues with saving changes to a .msg file. Suppose you
have a .msg file for an unsent email. Let's suppose a user opens this .msg
file and needs to make some changes to it. They then try to save the changes
before storing back in our data repository.

They will then get this message:

Your changes could not be saved because you don't have permission to modify
some or all of the items in this folder. do you want to save a copy of this
item in the default folder?

If they click yes, it saves a copy in their inbox, but the .MSG file on
their desktop (which is where most users save the msg while working on it)
remains unchanged.

Is there any way around this? I actually can't get this to trigger, but it
seems that it is fairly common out with the sales employees.

We use outlook 2003. The only information I have been able to find is for
outlook 97.

I'm not sure which version of exchange we use.

Any help appreciated.

Drag and drop said msg file in the Drafts folder and then edit it, drag
and drop back in external location when complete.

Why would you be saving an UNSENT email as a .msg file in the first place?

It isn't exactly that we are saving it as an unsent email, but rather the
email gets built on the fly (not my doing, this is an external application)
and since it is built on the fly , it is an unsent email. It doesn't seem to
happen when we work directly from Outlook (since we can add the email to our
data repository as a recieved email). I didn't write it and I don't have
control over how it does it, so we are stuck with what it is right now.

Anyway, we will give what Bob I suggested. I think that may work until we
change how the email is originally saved..
