4 USB card readers (for all kind of photo camera memories - Compact
Flash, SD, etc).

Bios
Floppy Diskette A:
1STDrive : Local Disk
2ndDrive : [None]
3rd Drive: DVD

I will wipe my HD, clean install Windows XP Pro w/SP2 (x32)

If I install Windows XP Pro w/SP2 (x32) SKU E85-02665
XP assign drive letters as default as following

3 1/2 Floppy (A Local Disk (C
Removable Disk (E Removable Disk (F
Removable Disk (G DVD-Ram Drive (H
Removable Disk (I

But If I install XP Pro w/SP2 (x32) volume version or Windows Vista
Premium Gold (x32) the DVD are assign as following

DVD-Ram Drive (H is assigned as (D

Funny is not?

I want to modify the drive letter like this:

3 1/2 Floppy (A Local Disk (C
DVD-Ram Drive (D Removable Disk(s) (The letter assign)

I know how to assign a drive letter

Log on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Performance and
Maintenance.
Click Administrative Tools, double-click Computer Management, and then
click Disk Management in the left pane.
Right-click the drive, the partition, the logical drive, or the volume
that you want to assign a drive letter to, and then click Change Drive
Letter and Paths.
Click Change.
Click Assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected,
click the drive letter that you want to use, and then click OK.
Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the drive letter change.

The problem is If I modify the drive letter, Changing the drive letter
of a volume could cause programs to no longer run.

In other words I want DVD-Ram Drive as (D!!!! before the windows
installation ends is this possible?

Or which solution should I use from this web page?

Disconnect the USB card reader when you install Windows and only install
it once the installation is finished.

If your just changing the drive letters of DVD drives and memory readers,
ignore the warning.

Last questions:

Should I move the 3rd Drive: DVD to 2ndDrive : [None]?

I am wrong!! The card readers is not USB, Do I have to install windows
with the card readres cable disconnected from the motheboard?

Hi Antonio,

Installing Windows and then changing the drive assignments won't hurt
anything. The warning you received is normal, and since you don't have
any programs running on the drives yet, don't worry about it.

I have 5 OS's on this workstation (actually 6 now with win7), and
sometimes making a change will cause XP to re-detect ALL my partitions
on the 3 internal drives, and I have to go through and remove all of
them one at a time. Most of the partitions are backups of the OS's,
Programs drive, so I don't want or need to have any of them assigned
drive letters.

You can change the one XP install setup location afterwards by a simple
registry edit.
