I inadvertantly entered "http://" in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\URL\ default and now every program attempts to open
using Internet explorer.

Anyone have an idea how to cure this problem?

Thanks much in advance....

Try to restore of a previous registry.

At a DOS prompt execute

Scanreg /RESTORE

restore a registry date prior to the date you made your change to the
default key.
