Well, for a start, do you have a domain?
That means a server machine set up as a domain controller.

You can't join a domain unless that domain already exists, ie someone has
set up a domain controller on the network.

If you just have regular PCs on the LAN, there is no domain, just a
workgroup.

If there is a domain, then you need to click the button to expand the logon
window to reveal the Domain box.
Now, you need to select which user account you wish to log on with. The
local PC user account, or the Domain user account. These are totally
different accounts. The username / password for the user account Ron on my
local PC ( localPC\Ron ) is different to domain\Ron.

If you can't log on to your domain user account, you need to get the domain
admin to re-set your acount and password on thedomain so you can log on. If
you want to log onto a local machine account you used in a workgroup, then
you need to select the local PC in the domain box.
