I have a Win2000 Server SP3 that is a domain controller.
I want to change its computer name.
The properties button in the Network identification tab
is disabled.
How can I do this?
Also, would changing the name will effect any thing on
system.

Thanks.
..

Hmm... It is impossible to change computer name untill it will be domain
controller or Certification Authorities (CA). Simple RTFM

Regards,
Gennadi

I think you'll have to demote it from being a DC, change its name, then
promote it back to being a DC.

Thanks, is this thing documented somewhere, the procedure?
does doing this have any consequences.

probably, typing in "hcange name of domain controller" into google brought
up a few, try this one:

im not entirely sure it is possible, as I've not really looked. It was jsut
an educated guess that you cant change a DC names, so demoting it back to a
win2k server would allow you to change it, then promiting it backl to a dc
with the new name. Assuming of course, that this isnt the only DC in your
domain!
