MarreeWarren,
If I have well understood your post(please post longer posts to be clearer),
everything went large on the screen, all fonts, buttons...etc.
You have activated an accessibility option for disabled people.
You must disactivate it: Start>All
programs>Accessories>Accessibility>Accessibility assistant.
Click next and select the habitual size to display fonts(Use habitual font
size for the windows),
Click next twice and uncheck any disability options(for blinds, deafs...etc)
Click next and finish.
Please reply again if it is not your problem.

Hope this could help,
Sincerely,
Pascal.

Hi, Marree,

To reduce the active window size, click the little box in the upper right
corner containing two overlapping pages.

To minimize, click the box with the dash, this will reduce the window to
just a Title on the lower task bar.

If everything is too large, like Icons for example, you need to change the
screen resolution.
Click Start, control panel, appearance and themes, display, and settings.
Move the slider bar to the right for higher resolution, one space at a time
to try out the different settings.
Click the advanced button and then click - Apply new settings without
restarting.
Click Apply and OK.
