I use 2 monitors, one is my laptop display and then a
monitor. I would like to use the secondary monitor as my
primary (not the laptop display). When I go to the
Display Properties, the option to "Use this device as the
primary monitor" is grayed out.

I was able to do this at one time, but I'm not sure what
I did to make it work.

Thanks for your help.

Make sure that you have the box labeled "Extend my
Windows desktop onto this monitor" checked.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the help. I actually do have that box checked.
I can use both monitors, I just wanted to change which
one is the primary.

I was able to accomplish this on my Dell Latitude D600 by doing th
following.

Set up the dual monitors with the laptop display as the primary an
extend the Windows desktop onto the monitor. Click on the "Advanced
button on the Display Properties Settings tab. This brings up a dialo
box with many tabs. Select the Displays tab. On this tab, I was abl
to set the monitor as the primary and the laptop display as th
secondary. My Dell has a program called ATI, which may be what i
allowing me to do this. Be careful when you are doing this. My firs
attempt resulted in my setting the monitor as the primary display, bu
not having the Windows desktop on it. As a result, I could not d
anything. In order to fix this I had to bring up the task manage
(Ctrl-Alt-Del) and start a new explorer process.

Good Luc

Perhaps you can help me. I set up my Dell Lattitude D600 for dual monitor
support and have been very happy with the results. And very unhappy that I
haven't been unable to return it to the one monitor configuration. Whenever
I use a projector with my laptop I cannot get it out of this mode and it's
quite frustrating. I tried the obvious unciecking the "Extend my desktop to
this monitor" when I have an external monitor connected and I select monitor
2. The box clears and the projector is "disconnected" from my laptop.
However, when I select function F8 to send the video signal to the projector
the computer reverts back to the shared desktop. Do you know how to help me
get back to my original configuration?
