hello all,
I have a issue with a PCI SM 56 PCI speaker phone modem.
The issue is it does not allow me to install Bitware says
there is no modem found. This is the same modem which i
use to browse the web and use MS fax services. I want to
have bitware configured. The bitware help says to change
the modem irq to either 1 or 3 how could i swap IRQ's
TIA

Check for jumpers on the modem card. If found, then disable
the Plug-N-Play feature. Now there should be jumpers for
setting the modem card to a specific COM port and IRQ setting.

Normally one would set the Plug-N-Play on and the operating
system decides which ports and interrupts to use.

Is it Motorola soft-modem? Download the latest drivers from
http://www.motorola.com/softmodem/driver.htm, dig in the modem control
applet in Control Panel, but I doubt you can do what Bitware recommends. Do
yourself a favor and buy a hardware modem at least.

Modem IRQ never can be 1. This software probably is obsolete
and not suitable to win2000. Please don't try to change IRQ or other
hardware settings of the modem, it is not going to help.

Some older jumperless modems came with a [diskette] program that had to
be used to config the device, incl IRQs. If that's the case here, try
the mfr's website. As the other posters said, however, you should NEVER
try to use IRQ1, and you should probably just bite the bullet & get a
new device.
