Hello to all.
I have given my two old PC's (all running Win XP SP1) to each of my
daughters and I'd like to change names to reflect this. I did a simple
"Registered Owner" change in the registry, but that obviously did not
change ALL the references in the file paths, etc. Is there one spot in the
registry that I can safely edit that will change "C:\Documents and
Settings\MY NAME" to "C:\Documents and Settings\THEIR NAMES" ? I noticed
that there were tons of references to file paths and program paths with my
name in them. It's not that big a deal that I'd want to change each and
every reference, but if there was just one key that would do it, it would
be nice.

Hi,

No, you can't change those names as they are tied to the user profile. You
would need to build new user profiles with their names rather than yours,
then copy over relevant data. Program shortcuts may or may not work under
the new profiles, you may need to reinstall them. Once completed and the new
ones are working ok, you can delete your old one.

Why not just click on Start... Run... Regedit and click on Edit.... Find.
Search for "your name" and replace it with your daughter's name. Then hit
F3 (new search) for the next entry and repeat. That should change
everything from you to her. It's not the "one key" you wanted but you can
have copied your daughters name. When you find your name just highlight it
and hit Ctrl-V to paste her name in place of yours.

MG. Reference my reply about changing using Regedit. I should have
reminded you to make a copy of your current registry before you change the
existing one. That way you can always return to your original registry if
something "screws up".
