I have a server that is running win2k server (MYDOMAIN) Running on a
Server named MYSERVER1. This is a Domain Controller, DNS, WINS, DHCP
and A file Server. (I Did Not Do IT!) I would like to move the File
server part of this to a new server with the same server name
MYSERVER1 (Because of the UNC Path). I do not want to change the
Domain Name just the name of the server it is running on. Is this
possible? I'm Thinking that I just rename the Domain Server to
MYSERVER2, then restart. Put the new server online with the Old Server
Name(MYSERVER1). Then restore all data to new sever. What problems am
i going to Have?

Hello (E-Mail Removed),

Like stated in the article, if you will rename the server which has a function
as Domain controller, you have to remove the Domain BEFORE and that means
you lost all domain configuration, user accounts etc. Then you can change
the server name and promote it again to the domain controller and built your
domain from scratch.

Best regards

Hello (E-Mail Removed),

Why not just use the new server and changed the network path. I think here

your needs.
