I have Windows XP Pro. I want to change my mother board
with a different mother board and need to know what is
going to happen when I make the change. If there is a
procedure to do in working Windows XP with the new mother
board, please let me know. I don't want to lose all my
icons and data.

you have to format windows when you change your
motherboard...when you installed windows it detects your
motherboard and installs the proper drivers. so you
better get saving your data and format after you install
your MOBO.

it may possibly work after you put in your new
motherboard but i doubt it. i had to format.

A Windows XP repair install would have worked! Then, you would have needed
to re-actviate XP.

Greetings --

Normally, assuming a retail license, unless the new motherboard is
virtually identical to the old one (same chipset, same IDE
controllers, same BIOS version, etc.), you'll need to perform a repair
(a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the very least:

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will probably also require re-activation. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.
