I've been reading that it is not possible to change font colors of headers
and footers in Excel. Is this true? Is there a way around it?

I don't know about office 2007 but as far earlier versions are concerned, you
can certainly change font colors of headers and footers in Excel.

To do that, click on file - page setup - Header/Footer pane - Custom Header
or Custom Footer - select proper pane (left/centre/right) - before entering
text, click on first icon [A] just above, format as per your choice and do
the rest.

click yes below, if it works for you

Where exactly do you see a color selection on the Font format dialog after
clicking [A] in earlier versions?
