I have a second drive that I use for a backup, so I have the "compress this
drive to save disk space" box ticked. Does anyone know how to change the
default green color that XP uses to display these compressed files to
something my old eyes can see a little easier?

TIA
Wayne

By default, compressed files and folders are displayed with blue text. Encrypted
files will show up with green text. You can turn this off by going to Control
Panel -> Folder Options -> View page and removing the check mark from the box
next to "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color". This should result
in all files and folders being displayed with black text.

If you prefer to keep displaying compressed files in an alternate color, but
want to change it from the default blue to another color you can use the
following procedure.

Download and install TweakUI from Microsoft. TweakUI is available here.

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

Direct Download of TweakUI
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ertoySetup.exe

Once the program is installed, go to Start -> All Programs -> Powertoys for
Windows XP -> TweakUI.
In TweakUI, click on the + sign next to Explorer in the left hand column.
Under Explorer, click on Colors.
Under Colors in the right hand pane, click on the color box next to Compressed
files.
Select the color you prefer from the chart.
Click OK.

Good luck
