I need to have the NTUSER.DAT (NTUSER.DAT.LOG) files in "other" folder.

In the registry at [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\
CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21-682003330-484763869-1957994488-1000]

"ProfileImagePath" = "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\UserName"

specified that folder for the user profile data, and(!)
NTUSER.DAT uses (and storage) in C:\UserRegFolder

Changing [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\hivelist]
"\REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-682003330-484763869-1957994488-1000" to
"\\Device\\HarddiskVolume1\\UserRegFolder\\NTUSER.DAT" is impossible.

After reboot after rebooting, there set to previous.

with regards, Sergey

If I understand what you would like do to do then it *is* impossible
(see Dave's post). The two account registry hive files on disk are
part of the Profile. One might move the entire profile or even the
ProfileRoot perhaps, but AFAIK one cannot move the DAT files from
their locations relative to the Profile tree. In any event any such
modification should be approached with due caution (and a verified
disk/partition image backup) IMO.

But it is an interesting request for which I can see no purpose.

since when I change _only_ the profile root (just "ProfileImagePath" key)
and location NTUSER.DAT changed (which NTUSER.DAT file uses),
consequently its folder taked from there.
and key "...\ControlSet001\Control\hivelist" simply filling
by this value.

Signifies no way to move the DAT files from
their locations relative to the Profile "file" tree.

That much bad !
since, when I move my account to the "Guest" group
and try logon, my profile was deleted.
I suppose, what simply deleted folder specified
by "ProfileImagePath" key.

I not want to drop my profile ! I just move it to "Guest" group.
And all my favorites, all my e-mail settings and letters, all my
system settings was dropped !

Therefore I find way to safe my profile.

"System folders" are possible move by change corresponding keys in
the registry.

But NTUSER.DAT, I see only one way: create hard link to this file.
After "accidental" delete my profile,
its copy remain in second location.

Thanks

Thats okay, but I am experiencing difficulty
understanding/comprehending you. Do you have anyone that can better
translate your thoughts to English for you?

Thank. All clear me.

Location of the file "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\NTUSER.DAT"
possible change only with whole profile.

Impossible in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
\ProfileList\<SID>\ProfileImagePath set some folder, and
NTUSER.DAT uses from other folder.

I am right ?

It's need me for my sure, what tomorrow I am not lost my "custom
application settings" (accounts in the outlook express, my customized
toolbars in the Delphi, ...) if profile will be deleted.

How profile can be removed, if its not to directly delete ? 8-[ ]
For example, in my case, changing group to "Guests" and trying to log on.
I am have not sure what tomorrow, not will else anything.

Yes.

Yes. Or at least that is my understanding and experience.

I think the answer is to use ntbackup.exe to backup your profile or
all profiles. Best done from a different (Administrators) account if
possible ensuring no files are skipped. Then you can restore the
profile if it is lost or deleted.

I do not use Guest accounts at all. If you need a Guest account, you
should create a new one. Many applications may not function under
this limited account.
