I want to change the default speech from M.S. Sam to Mary.

I downloaded the Speech SDK 5.1, but it didn't help.

Does anyone know how I can change the voice to Microsoft Mary ?

Thanks,
Andy

Joe,

If you install SpeechSDK51.zip, you will get additional voices.
It's a big download.

For some reason, I don't have Speech in Control Panel.

I am trying to find out why.

I do have sapi.cpl which lets me change voices.

You can also download the Mike/Mary voice package for
XP. you don't have to install the whole SDK.

I'm not sure, but I think you might be able to make
sapi.cpl show using TweakUI XP.

There's a link here for Mary/Mike voices install:

http://www.jaws-users.com/programs/

There should be other links online. They're not
official downloads. Microsoft has been stingy with
the SAPI voices. They typically come only with this
or that software. But some 3rd-party entities have
been generous enough to build installer for them.

You can also use the MS SAPI SDK link, but it's
more work. Download Sp5TTIntXP.exe instead of
the SDK. It contains the voices in a merge module
for Windows Installer. Unpack the MSM file with
any of the unpackers from here:

http://www.jsware.net/jsware/msicode.php5

Copy the voice files to the speech folder and add
the Registry entries that the unpacker log lists.

Any voice can be added that way, but it takes
a little work. In addition to copying over the .sdf
and .spd files, a handful of Registry entries have
to be added under
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech\Voices\Tokens\.

TweakUi doesn't show it. ??
I made a desktop shortcut to it.

Installing SpeechSDK51 installs the new voices.

Since I didn't need the whole package, I manually deleted the SDK
leaving the voices behind.

I had to delete some reg entries about the installation so it wouldn't
complain.
