I'm not sure I totally follow, but it sounds like something that Martin
Conradi posted a solution to. it is a commercial addin of which there is a
trial version:
www.showcasesolutions.net/SPProductsPage.htm - it is called Carte Blanche.
It is for maps, but you could link a graph made out of autoshapes to an
external data sheet. Worth a look, anyway.
