I have had a new 500GB drive installed on my XP Home computer and it is my
intention that my 250GB Drive C be relegated to just a repository for
additional data. So I have cloned the old HDD to the new HDD using Acronis.
How do I change the drive letter on the new drive to C and how do I change
the system so that I boot up on the new HDD?

easiest would probably to swap connectors at the hard drives themselves.

You clone the drive to your new drive, shutdown immediately on completion.
Connect the new drive as master, disconect old drive, reboot
Once all is ok, shutdown reconnect old as slave, reboot
I would delete the partition on the old drive & recreate it

Thank you very much. The operation went off with no problems.
